Resumo
The teaching of Environmental Sciences goes beyond the study of nature and the beings
that inhabit it. In its entirety, it contributes to the critical, social and human formation of
individuals, aiming at the relationships that occur in the environment and conscious
decision-making. All these aspects are directed towards quality education based on the
student as the protagonist in the process. From this perspective, this work had as its main
objective to build a pedagogical material with an interdisciplinary perspective based on
birds. For this, a survey of species that occurred in the urban area of this municipality was
carried out. The other objectives were: to know the perception of students and teachers
about this group of animals and to identify their relationship with teaching. Data
collection was performed with twenty-eight participants from the Getúlio Vargas State
School, located in the municipality of Tefé, Amazonas, Brazil. Of this audience, ten were
part of the faculty from different areas of knowledge (Geography, History, Physical
Education, among others) and eighteen students, ten from Elementary School II (6th to
9th grade) and eight from High School. Online forms were used to collect information
and contact participants through social media. The research is characterized as an
Exploratory Case Study and data interpretation was based on Bardin's Content Analysis.
In the urban area of the city, 66 species of birds were observed that served as the basis for
the construction of the educational product. From the results, it was observed that teachers
and students recognize birds through their physical characteristics and the importance
they have for their natural habitat. Participants also showed to know a diversity of birds
and showed interest in their observation. During the process of reading the educational
product, it was noted that students were able to relate birds with other curriculum
components, increasing the association with themes beyond the biological area. And the
teachers revealed that they have knowledge that allows for the association of the theme
birds with their area of expertise in the classroom. Thus, the results obtained showed that
the birds, through the educational product, have the potential to be used in
interdisciplinary teaching. Thus, it is recommended to use birds to explore relevant
aspects in teaching that contribute to contextualized learning and less fragmentation.
