Resumo

The work aims to verify if family farming and public policies, aimed at guaranteeing markets for the production of family farming, are consolidated with the creation of the food acquisition program - PAA, which has as one of its main objectives the strengthening family farming. In this context, it is verified whether the program is promoting food security (SAN) or not, and whether it is contributing to the income and quality of life of the food suppliers of the Cooperative of Family Agriculture Workers COOTAF of the Municipality of Manacapuru - AM. In addition to analyzing whether the PAA program has been an important tool in the economic and social sustainability and SAN of family farmers participating in the research. So in the search for the answer of what is the role that the program has in the strengthening of family farming and considering that the strengthening of agriculture also occurs through the organization of these farmers in associations or cooperatives and in this sense a study was made of a social organization COOTAF , as a market alternative and what is the participation of family farmers in this cooperative with the institutional market, hence the interest in seeking and collecting data that could contribute to the understanding of how the PAA contributes to the food security of family farmers in cooperative, being chosen for being a cooperative that sells its products of family agriculture directly to the PAA donation from CONAB-AM, and understand the importance of this institutional market for COOTAF family farmers. The results of the research partially confirm, demonstrating that the PAA in fact strengthens family farming and that it can be considered as a public policy, revenue generation and financial return strategy for farmers, enabling SAN food security and better quality of life for farmers supplying food for the institutional market of PAA donation. At the same time, they show that with the process of commercialization via PAA, the producer increased his income and with this he modified his eating habits, starting to consume industrialized foods and thus leading to an INSAN food insecurity, but in relation to family farmers and the institutional market of the PAA have been fulfilling the objectives with which the program was proposed, and have a significant importance in strengthening family farming and local development, investment in this area through public policies can be promoted positively the development of the rural sector, making the community enjoy yet another economic segment, considering that Family Farming has been strengthening with the sale of products to PAA in the State of Amazonas.
