Resumo
The research analyzes the public policies for Youth and Adult Education - EJA
instituted by the state system of education of Amazonas, in the period 2010-
2014, in conjunction with public policies defined for national education. It
highlights the main demands in the EJA significant debate spaces, with the
focus on those made in Amazonas. It also brings the specific issues of policies
of organization and supply of adult education and procedure of movements,
according to the subjects’ perspectives. The theoretical and methodological
foundations sustain the views and settings of adult education. The research
used the dialectical method and adopted a qualitative approach, based on
documental analysis and semi-structured interviews. The methodological
procedures favored the following documents: the education legislation,
programs, projects, reports and events schedules. In the interviews, we
selected course coordinators, managers of adult education centers and
representatives of SEDUC/AM sectors. The research results corroborate the
absence of significant investment in youth and adult education, especially in the
mechanisms that ensure the right to education, setting up a limited expansion of
courses offering, mainly for the high school demand, composed mostly by
young and adult working people, preventing the access of this population to
schooling. In the process of assurance to the right to adult education, some
highlights are the actions of movements in defense of EJA consolidation as a
public policy of the State, based on popular education in a perspective of
human emancipation. The research results allow a reflection on the policies for
youth and adult education in Amazonas.
