Efeito da ação terapêutica da fitoterapia chinesa no tratamento complementar da síndrome metabólica: revisão sistemática

Resumo

Introduction: There are reports in the literature that Chinese Phytotherapy can have a potential beneficial effect in the treatment of Metabolic Syndrome. Objective: To describe the dose-response relationship of the effect of the therapeutic action of Chinese Phytotherapy as a complementary or isolated treatment in the Metabolic Syndrome. Method: This was a systematic review of randomized clinical trials with qualitative synthesis. The systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA manuscript writing guideline. The literature search was carried out in the following electronic databases: MEDLINE via PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central, BVS and ClinicalTrials.gov, with no restriction on language or year of publication. The gray literature was searched in Google Scholar and Scopus electronic databases. The following descriptors were used: Traditional Chinese Phytotherapy; Chinese Plant Extracts; Metabolic syndrome; Metabolic X Syndrome; Insulin Resistance Syndrome X. All terms used for the search were associated with the Boolean operators AND and OR, in order to obtain articles more relevant to the proposed theme. Methodological analysis and risk of bias were performed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias (RoB2) tool, and analysis of methodological limitations using the CASP Randomized Controlled Trial Standard Checklist. The analysis of qualitative evidence was performed using GRADE-CERqual. The protocol of this systematic review is registered in the Prospective Register of Systematic Review (PROSPERO) with CRD42021281682. Results: Nine RCTs, all peer-reviewed, were included in this review. Thus, in 88,8% of the included studies, Chinese Herbal Medicine showed a beneficial effect in the control of the Metabolic Syndrome. As for the analysis of qualitative evidence, the studies showed low to moderate confidence. Conclusion: Traditional Chinese Phytotherapy has great potential in the treatment of the Metabolic Syndrome, especially in the control of glucose and lipid metabolism. However, the mechanism of action of these herbal medicines still needs to be further investigated by large-scale clinical trials, as well as more high-quality trials are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of Chinese Herbal Medicine.
