Os caminhos da Igreja Católica na Amazônia: de Santarém ao Sínodo para Amazônia (1972 a 2022)

Resumo

The purpose of this work is to analyze the paths of the Catholic Church in the Amazon, presenting some key readings about the process since the arrival in the region with European colonizers, corroborating the justification of colonization. Later on, it distanced itself and underwent a new form of action, which we call “decolonization”, starting with the Second Vatican Council, passing through the Latin American Episcopal Conferences, arriving at the Meeting of the Catholic Church of the Amazon in Santarém in the State of Pará in 1972 and having its culminating point was the Synod for the Amazon called by Pope Francis in 2017, concluding with the synodal assembly in October 2019. This Dissertation presents these paths, taking as a basis the documents approved by the Church, but above all the processes experienced, having as a reference to the Prelacy of Tefé.
