Resumo
The child development is due to interaction among the biological and environmental characteristics, being primordial the cares that the family excuses to child in the daily. Due to the needs of providing consultations in a integrated way the five year-old smaller child and to render to the responsible for the children updated information on child development as the preventive cares with the health and the child's feeding the Pan-American Organization of the Health and UNICEF defined the Integral Attention to the Childhood Illness as strategy to systematize the attendance to that age group in itself, evaluating the child integrally, adopting measures therapeutics of low cost and high solution allied with the focus of the preventive measures and of basic attention to the child and it family. The Demographic Census of 2000 demonstrated that in relation handicap, for the children with up to 6 years old, the index was of 64,000 (2,9%) in the North Region of Brazil. The Caminhar Program of Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA) attends handicapped children to zero till twelve years old and theirs families in the North Region of Brazil. Objective: to identify the knowledge about child health that the responsible for the enrolled
children in the Caminhar Program possesses in the context of the Integral Attention the Childhood Illness and still to correlate social environmental factors with the absenteeism in the Program. Method: The developed study was analytic and descriptive, accomplished in the Caminhar Program, under quali-quantitative approach. The casuistry was of 100 responsible for the enrolled children in the Caminhar Program. Results: The caregivers possess appropriate knowledge about immunization, weight and child development and prevention of diseases as diarrhea, dehydration, pneumonia and intestinal parasitic diseases; however your hygienic habits were unsatisfactory. Conclusion: Relating factors partner environmental with the children's absenteeism in the Program to Walk, direct influence of those was not observed in the adhesion to the Program.
