Resumo

This study seeks to analyze the reality of public-school libraries in the county of Humaitá, located in the south of Amazonas state, taking into account Law 12.244/10 and its application. It starts from the study of national and state public policies in Amazonas, aimed at the library and reading, as well as the concepts of school library and reading, to analyze the space and practices of the public-school library in Humaitá, with the specific objectives of discussing the concepts of the School Library, identifying the teaching practices currently carried out in public school libraries in the municipality and identifying the profile of the Library Public School of Humaitá. The methodology applied includes a qualitative method, of an exploratory nature. The data was constructed through documentary sources from the Ministry of Education, the Secretariat of Education and Sports of Amazonas (SEDUC-AM), observation of spaces, and structured interviews with professionals working in school libraries in the municipality. The analysis of this data was conceptualized in the Analysis of Content by Bardin (2011). The results of the research points to the neglect of promoting reading and access to books in the county, which does not offer active public libraries, in addition to the lack of professionals with proper training to work in school libraries.
