Desafios encontrados na doação de sangue no Brasil

Resumo

Blood is a liquid tissue that circulates throughout the body, carrying oxygen and nutrients to all organs. This receives already assimilated food and transports it to the cells. To date, there is no substitute for blood, so the donor is the only source for those who need their blood components or blood products. The search for donors has been an ongoing concern for health authorities. This study offers a narrative review of the literature on the obstacles faced in the blood donation process in Brazil. The SCIELO, GOOGLE ACADÊMICO and PUBMED platforms were used to select 10 articles according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. In these, different problems were identified, among them, difficulties in the process of attracting and retaining blood donors, the behavior of donor risk, lack of knowledge or doubts on the part of donors, positive serology for diseases or infections in a blood bank. These can be mitigated by developing strategies that directly work to attract and retain donors in different locations, taking into account the importance of raising awareness about the stages in the donation cycle, as well as the approach of the screening professional. Keywords: inability to donate blood; impediments to blood donation; blood donors in Brazil; barriers to blood donation.
