“Aqui é uma parentesa só”: Conjugalidade, Gênero e Identidade na Comunidade Quilombola de Narcisa – Capitão Poço/PA

Abstract

This dissertation is an ethnography conducted in the Remnant Community Quilombo Narcisa, located in the Northeast of Pará, in the rural zone of the municipality Capitão Poço. From data collected during field work and the constant engagement with the concepts of quilombo and gender, the point of departure of this research an analysis of how the social subjects in quilombola identity construction process represent or create mechanisms for their marital choices. The conjugality was perceived to be closely linked to kinship networks structured around the dichotomy "inside" and "outside". These categories are triggered by social agents in order to define and differentiate the relative and non-relative, and also determine rules for the preferred choice of spouse. The research explored the conjugal group from the rules governing the choice of “preferred” spouse, strategies of social actors to consummate the conjugal union, status of unions perceived in the field and the relationship between the spouses in the daily community life
