Práticas pedagógicas de Educação Ambiental em escolas municipais de Manaus

Abstract

The catastrophic effects of the environmental crisis in the environment are increasingly evident in global and local levels. Its consequences are also already visible in the school context where we can see various expressions of social and environmental issue. In this context, the big questions are about the creation of sustainable alternatives that can reverse this reality, and that is when environmental education arises, considered an important tool for sustainability practices. We understand that the school has a key role in achieving social and environmental sustainability, as the practice of environmental education can reverse the problem the environmental problems that arise in the school setting and in the community in which it operates. Nevertheless, the approach to environmental education in schools is still insufficient, especially in understanding the theoretical/methodological concepts that underlie their practice and overshadows the possibilities to use it as social and environmental transformation tool. Therefore, it is important we draw a true picture of how environmental education is being developed in public schools in Manaus, as for example, to highlight the issues that prevent and to actualize their practice, so that we can increasingly improve the ways for its consolidation in schools. In this sense, this research seeks to analyze the pedagogical practices of Environmental Education in implementing the School Environmental Agenda in two public schools in Manaus. The discussions considered the fieldwork information that used the following technical research instruments: semi-structured interviews for managers, educators and teachers, and the application of a questionnaire to the students of the 9th grade of elementary school. The pedagogical practices of Environmental Education of the two schools proved to be incipient, considering the "simplistic" way they are addressed environmental complexity and its implications on society and the school context, which leads to a conservative practice of environmental education. However, we understand that the perspective of culture and sustainability is possible to develop an environmental education that fosters in students a critical awareness, reflective and analytical, causing them to participate in the solution of environmental problems of their local situation. Additionally, developing an interactive dynamic with all social actors to become active in the transformation of socio-environmental reality process to change the way of relating to nature.
