O design de mobiliário para valorização dos resíduos de madeiras amazônicas

Abstract

This study proposes a methodological process (systematization) for the utilization of tailings from the productive process of the wood industry (logs with hollows, cracks, malformation, etc.). Nowadays, the management and processing of wood logs are important variables for this operation within the wood industry of Amazon, however, the productive process, coupled with strict quality criteria imposed by the market, especially the international market, contributes for the generation of waste that can cause environmental impacts if no viable and environmentally friendly alternatives for disposal are found. In this case, the waste generated by sawmills is generally used in boilers for the production of electric energy, or for the production of boards and panels. Therefore, investigations on ways to use these residues are important, through which the value attributed to the discarded raw material, mostly noble wood and in relative big amount can be used for the development of products with differentiated and competitive design. The methodology used for the research was based on a study of the literature on the wood and furniture markets, productive processes, methodology in Design for the development of furniture, as well as a case study with Precious Woods Amazon which concentrates its activities on certified forest management (scope of certification), located between the municipalities of Itacoatiara, Silves and Itapiranga in the State of Amazon, Brazil. The study stages for the elaboration of the systematic involved a pre-selection of the raw material up to its processing for the manufacture of residential furniture, activities that accumulate significant waste of wood. The validation of the results came from a Focus Group (workshop) with professionals in the areas of Forestry Engineering, Design and Furniture Industry. The products developed within the study were evaluated by experts as being of great ecological appeal, with current and differentiated style that reflects a high commercial and economic viability identity that values the wood of the Amazon.
