Resumo
Experimentation is a valuable strategy to improve the teaching of specific chemistry concepts, but within the planning of these types of classes, waste-related issues must be considered. The approach of waste-management problems is important in the graduation of chemistry teachers, since such subjects are present in people's daily lives. Understanding how this problem is being addressed in university can help improve the level of training of the teachers. Several studies show that universities have neglected attention to these issues. The present study verified how the problem of the waste-management is being approached in chemistry graduation of UFAM, considering the problematization of environmental issues, specifically the disposal of chemical residues. For the development of the study, a qualitative approach was adopted, which had two instruments of data collection, documentary analysis and questionnaires. With the documentary analysis, it was verified that the pedagogical project of the course gives little relevance to the problem of waste-management. With content analysis it was verified that almost all participants have an understanding of the importance of experimentation, and would know how to proceed with planning and application of practical experiments in basic education. However, almost all of them also showed little understanding of the problem of waste-management, perceiving this issue as solvable, but without considering the possibility of using it in teaching. In this sense, the teacher stops being an educator and happens to be only a repeater of experiments, which does not make the class participatory and inclusive for students to think about the problem.
