Resumo

The project that was developed in the Higher Education Institutions in Manaus that teach the undergraduate course in Social Work highlighted the theoretical and practical teaching in Social Work courses, in the light of the Curricular Guidelines that guide the professional formation of social workers in Brazil. To reflect on the theoretical and practical teaching proposed by the training project of this professional category, it was fundamental to verify how this theoretical and practical teaching was treated in the pedagogical projects of the institutions, as well as the identification of the strategies adopted by the teachers of social work courses So that the students realized the mediation between theory and practice for a critical and transforming action of the social reality. The research was qualitative and quantitative, with the application of forms to teachers and course coordinators, with open and closed questions that made it possible to understand, with more clarity, the object of the research. The data of field research and bibliographical research were fundamental to interpret the reality of the facts and to analyze the relation that is established between the theoretical and practical teachings developed in the pedagogical scope of the HEI for the training of the social workers of the city of Manaus. The investigation revealed that theoretical and practical teaching is not clearly defined in pedagogical projects, making their achievement depend on the subjectivity of the subjects involved. A little more than 44% of the subjects assure that they can establish the mediation between theoretical knowledge and the demands of reality throughout the course, while more than 55% indicate that such articulation takes place in the specific disciplines, especially in the supervised stage.
