Resumo
The species Endopleura uchi, Humiriaceae family, native to the Amazon, is commonly known as uxi-amarelo or uxi-liso. The tea from its bark is popularly referred to uterine inflammation, urinary, and extremely effective in treating specific fibroids and polycystic ovary. Based on information collected about the popular use of this species in the region of Manaus, the study was conducted to obtain the phytochemical investigation of Endopleura uchi which led to the isolation of friedelin, a pentacyclic triterpene, and also bergenin, a gallic acid derivative, known to have various biological activities and is the main component in the species. In the present study were quantified bergenin in different extracts of different parts of the plant and also in commercial bark Endopleura uchi. The result showed a higher percentage of Bergenin in methanol extracts of bark (CEM-1 = 4.17% and CEM-2 = 4.75%) followed by extracts of leaves and in lower concentrations in aqueous extracts of twigs (GEA-1 = 1.95% and GEA-2 = 1.89%), bergenin as indicating the major component Endopleura uchi and that may be related to biological activities popularly given to the species. All samples analyzed showed the presence of bergenin with percentages ranging from 0.20% to 3.57%, confirming the authenticity of the plant material. Was also performed quantification of total phenolics by Folin-Ciocalteu, which revealed high levels of phenolic compounds from 16.69 to 43.02 mg GAE/g dry extract. This evaluation of the antioxidant activity by reducing iron ranged from 230.43 to 567.89 mmol Fe+2/g of dry extract and the scavenge of radical DPPH ranged from CS50 = 12.04 to 24.20 g/ml. The test for evaluation of antiulcer activity of the fractions ethyl acetate and chloroform leaves showed preventive effects of ulcerations as much as the positive control. The anti-inflammatory assay of aqueous extracts and fractions of Endopleura uchi by inhibition of nitric oxide (NO ) showed significant inhibition capacity, the best result being attributed to chloroform fraction of the leaves with IC50 = 3.2 g/mL. The results obtained from the leaves, twigs and bark species Endopleura uchi with great therapeutic value by the presence of antioxidant compounds and their ability anti-inflammatory and antiulcer, enabling the use of this popular safer plant species and the possible contribution to the development of herbal products or news drugs.
