Resumo
The present work exposes the exclusion that the alienated lived in the city of Manaus in the period from 1880-1927, period of great town plannings modifications in the city, in the political and social life of the ones who lived in the city. The transformations also happened in the field of the health, with creation of commissions, posture codes and the construction of medical institutions, among them Saint House of Mercy and Alienated Eduardo Ribeiro’s Hospital. Those institutions helped in the modernization process and discipline imposition, collecting in their spaces not just alienated, but workers, children, women, arrested of justice, among others. They had role of to cure the patients and to discipline those that went against the order and the progress of the Paris of the Tropics. In the discipline process stands out the police and the treatments that alienated were submitted, many times applied of inefficient way or nor applied, or still questionable
