Resumo
This thesis has as its object of study the cartoons designer João Miranda de
Queiroz, a former official journal of A CRÍTICA. The time frame used in this study
focused on publications for the years 1972 to 1974, years of political transition that
served as thematic space for selection and deepening everyday involving these
productions. The purpose is to examine the artistic representations of the cartoonist,
trying to get through humor, a dimension of social imagination within the context of
current political détente in Amazonas State Military. The work also brings a desk
research, lifted from A CRÍTICA newspaper editorial materials collected during field
research. Searching with this research build both a biographical survey of the life and
work of this artist, given its almost 30 years of service to the journal, reveal how, from
their works, a model of reading about the social imaginary in Manaus during period of
military rule. About this themed space, the production was situated within a social
episode, the "Election 1974 in Amazonas," thus seeking to reverse an exercise, based
not only on the joke, but the opening reception of the spaces proposed for certain
humorous content , which makes the charge a sort of "window" to understand, through
the production of targeted newspaper, some of the political ambience that was in
transition. From the cartoons and the ironic episode that results from this event, it was
possible to feel part of the social imagination of readers of this context, and identify,
from the irony, the effects of cultural revolutions that hit the city and undermining the
behavioral models of this generation.
