Resumo
Head and neck neoplasms affect 5% of all diagnosed cases of cancer in the world. This group of diseases can affect the Quality of Life (QoL) of affected people, as the treatment is aggressive and complications can occur even years after treatment. Among the available care measures, low-intensity laser therapy (LLLT) has shown promise in the prevention and treatment of oral complications resulting from anticancer treatment. The aim of this study is to perform a systematic review (SR) on the impact of adverse effects management with LLLT on QoL in patients with head and neck cancer (CCP). Electronic searches were performed in databases and indexers: MEDLINE (PubMed), SCOPUS, Web of Science, Scielo, Cochrane Controlled Trials Registry and Lilacs. Randomized clinical trials that analyzed the influence of LLLT on oral complications, compared to a placebo group, with QoL as primary or secondary outcome related to CCP, were considered eligible. The selection of articles was performed by two reviewers independently, a third reviewer was assigned to cases of divergence. The selected studies were submitted to a risk of bias assessment using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. The risk of bias of the studies was classified as low and moderate. It is concluded that the studies in this review provide evidence of a positive effect of LLLT on QoL in this group of patients.
