Denúncia e resgate em Preces e súplicas ou os cânticos da desesperança, de Vera Duarte

Resumo

The following work analyzes the book of poems Preces e súplicas ou os cânticos da desesperança (2005), by Cape Verdean poetess Vera Duarte, fully, divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, a historical-literary survey is made about the periods classified informally by Pre-clarity, Clarity in itself and Post-clarity, determining moments in the Cape Verde archipelago for its culture and literature with regard to its identity formation, to observe which of these references and nuances are present in the poetic writing of Duarte in her two previous books before the corpus mentioned, to know, Amanhã amadrugada (1993) e O arquipélago da paixão (2001). In the second chapter, the reading of the object of this research is started from the first poem section of the book, “Primeiro as súplicas”, in which three poems-supplication are analyzed followed by opening poem of the next section, “Salvé Poesia”, focused on the social cause, under the bias of engaged literature, with the theoretical constructs of Antonio Candido, Literatura e sociedade (2006), Theodor Adorno, “Engagement” (1991), Jean-Paul Sartre, Que é a literature? (2004), Benjamim Abdala Júnior, “Arte engajada” (2007) and Claud Esteban, Crítica da razão poética (1991). In the third chapter, are analyzed the others sections of the corpus. They are: “Agora as sete preces”, with seven poems-prayer that deal with the African issue and the evils of imperialism; followed by “Poemas do antigamente e de hoje… ainda!”, in which six poems discuss about the situation of African woman as subaltern in society; and the last one, “Cântico final e redentor”, in which two final poems end the book crying out for the collective salvation of society through Poetry. The theoretical basis of this final chapter is made by postcolonial theory, essentially, by Gayatri Spivak, with Pode o subalterno falar? (2010), Thomas Bonnici, with O pós-colonialismo e a literatura (2012) and “Teoria e crítica pós-colonialistas” (2009), Bill Ashcroft, Gareth Griffiths and Helen Tiffin, with The empire writes back (2002) and Post-colonial studies (2007), and Frantz Fanon, with Os condenados da terra (1968).
