A Vila Alterosa do Juí: uma "Cidade Santa" na dinâmica da rede urbana no Alto Solimões, Amazonas

Abstract

This work had as main objective to understand how the Villa Alterosa of Juí, spiritual seat of the Brotherhood of Santa Cruz, is inserted in the contemporary process of urbanization in the Amazon, from its internal dynamics and its role in the urban grid. For this we use a mixed methodology, concomitantly incorporating different methods, having as main the qualitative method and by secondary the quantitative. Data collection procedures involved the search for primary and secondary data, which was done through bibliographical research, data collection in public and private institutions, field observations, and formal and informal interviews. The results indicate that the village reflects the general process of urbanization, and it is possible to identify the contradictions of rural / urban. The set of relationships triggered by the centrality of the Brotherhood, the commercialization of production and the offer of services, make the village assume relevance in the dynamics of the local and regional urban grid. Getting to articulate what we call the Middle Rio Içá.
