Resumo

The application of methodologies that evaluate Geographical Indications (GIs) are essential to provide an overview of their performance, highlighting positive and negative aspects of their operationalization, costs and benefits, among others. From this perspective, the objective of this study was to evaluate the operationalization indicators of the Indication of Origin (IP) Novo Remanso, whose registered and protected product is the pineapple of the Turiaçu variety. As methodological procedures go, it is a case study, with a qualitative and exploratory approach. As a research instrument, the methodology of the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE), year (2020), was used, which evaluated twelve indicators, covering aspects such as legislation, market, promotion, tourism and institutional partnerships. The results point to advances in legislation, but operational challenges, especially in exports to international markets, highlighting documentary barriers. The implementation of the IP seal and the prevention of usurpation of the geographic name have emerged as current challenges, with the need for greater government support, investments in qualifications and technology. Sustainable tourism potential was identified, with proposals to develop ecotourism in the region. The importance of partnerships with government institutions, highlighting the role of SEBRAE and the need for training and efficient logistics infrastructure to flow production. The rescue of local history and the Slow Food pineapple initiative represent innovative strategies. Finally, the study revealed a complex and challenging panorama in the implementation of the Indication of Origin focused on pineapple production in the region. These analyzes contribute to the holistic understanding of GI operationalization, providing valuable insights for future improvements and similar studies.
