Resumo
Research has been an essential element for the training and professional work of the social worker, insofar as it allows the professional to know the different dimensions of the social question. The Federal Constitution of Brazil of 1988 provides for the principle of indissociability between teaching, research and extension in universities, but not all higher education institutions are legally obliged to carry out these activities. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the scientific initiation in the formation in Social Work in the public and private higher education institutions of the city of Manaus, that offer Social Service courses. It had specific objectives: characterize the scientific initiation activity offered by these institutions; to explain the contribution of scientific initiation to the training for Social Work; to highlight the main challenges faced during the development of the research and the role played by the supervisors in this process. In order to collect more contemporary data, we analyze the period of the year from 2015 to 2017. Our sample was centered on four institutions that have final reports of scientific initiation in Social Work courses, one public and three private. The research was bibliographical, documentary and field research. In the latter, we use the interview technique, through the application of forms with open and closed questions. We interviewed a total of 39 subjects, of these, 14 academic researchers and 25 young researchers. Research has shown that although institutions make a commitment to articulate the university's tripod, it is still underdeveloped, especially in private higher education institutions. For the majority of teachers and young researchers, one of the obstacles is the overload of teaching work, the lack of incentive of the institutions, few vacancies and scholarships for students, and the fragility of the dissemination of research and extension activities. According to the interviewees, the scientific initiation is essential for the formation of the future researcher, because it allows criticality, broad vision about the profession, contributes to the development of writing and, mainly, for the insertion of the students in graduate programs.
