Mutawarisá: benzimento entre os baré de São Gabriel da cachoeira - Alto Rio Negro

Abstract

The objective of this dissertation is to seek understanding of the way in which the Baré healers of São Gabriel da Cachoeira work in healing practices. It shows the importance of the blessing in a general context, informing the region ‘shealers´ specialties, reporting theme tho do transmission of the prayers of healers, including classes, thermos effective hours to bless, there attribution of the patient’s family members and the importance of dreams that warn and help the benzimento (blessing). It also report son he althand corpodoença (body-disease), including thety pesof diseases present in there goon between Baré, both by bewitched animal sand by witchcraft done by humans, including symptoms and cure of these diseases in the Baré cosmological system. Such diagnoses are performed by healing specialists, known as benzedores (blessers). The research presents there lation ship of the festivity the saints with benzimento, presenting the items that are essential in the festival and, finally, the ethnography held in São Joaquim indigenous community presents the Catholic festivity and its relationship with the benzimento, discussing the thanks giving held in the festivity for St. Joachim with its rituals.
