Entre envelhecimento e saúde: análise do perfil dos idosos participantes de um projeto de promoção da saúde em Parintins–AM

Resumo

This study analyzed the possibilities and limitations faced by elderly residents of Parintins-AM who participate in local health-promotion programs. The research, which was observational, cross-sectional, and quantitative, included 78 older adults and aimed to investigate their social profile, health conditions, and the factors influencing their participation. Findings indicate that, although these programs foster active aging—promoting autonomy, social interaction, and prevention of chronic diseases—structural barriers still restrict access, especially for individuals living in peripheral neighborhoods. The lack of public transportation, long distances to activity sites, and inconsistent municipal policies reduce participation. Health data revealed a high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes, underscoring the importance of continued physical activity initiatives. The study concludes that, despite meaningful contributions, the programs remain insufficient to meet the full demand, highlighting the need for expanded public policies, improved infrastructure, and greater accessibility to ensure full inclusion of the elderly population.
