Resumo

The study of this dissertation has as main objective to demonstrate the socio-environmental situation of the Mestre Chico Hydrographic Microbasin, located between the geographic coordinates: 3 ° 08'09, 75 "S and 60 ° 00'4212" W, in the delimitation of the neighborhoods Praça 14 de Janeiro and Cachoeirinha, in the Center-South Zone of Manaus. The procedures and methodological techniques were worked through documentary research, scientific literature pertinent to the theme, organization of a Geographic Information System (GIS), mapping of the study area and direct observation in loco for georeferencing. Regarding the results, a high level of environmental degradation was diagnosed around the microbasin. In the medium and high course sectors, the most frequent problems were: the domestic disposal of organic matter, household appliances and furniture, the absence of plumbing in residences with wastewater flow directly in the stream and demand for basic sanitation. Studies have indicated that the middle sector of Igarapé do Mestre Chico, between Leonardo Malcher and Nhamundá streets, is most susceptible to flooding during the rainy season, causing losses of material goods. In this context, there is a need for the implementation of Public Policies through formal and informal educational actions aimed at environmental awareness, as well as mitigating measures on the impacts in this microbasin. Actions to raise awareness, participatory debates, between the local community and institutions of interest should be prioritized by the public power. Therefore, it is recommended as an initial measure by the institutions the creation of a Committee of the Microbasin of the Igarapé of Mestre Chico.
