Resumo
In the dissertation Modernism in the Amazon in verse, prose and magazine – from 1927 to 1951, I present a historical-analytical approach on the early literary manifestations and publications that occurred in the state of Amazonas, 27 years before Midnight Club was founded in Manaus in 1954. In order to clarify relevant information about the history of Amazonian literature, I carry out my research from the reading of poetic, historiographical, and literary criticism works, aiming to chronologically reconstruct the course of our Literature with its respective writers, both from a collective and individual point of view, as well as understand its importance for current and future scientific productions, taking as a guiding basis the studies referring to Avant-garde Literature, Modernism in Brazil, and the Modern Art Week in 1922, while considering Pereira da Silva and his publication of Amazon poems, Clóvis Barbosa and his magazine Ecuador, Ferreira de Castro and his novel The Jungle, Violeta Branca and her Rhythms of restless joy, and Thiago de Mello and his Silence and word, as the early references in the Amazon to explore such new perspective. In addition to these, the historical-analytical and literary works of the main writers and essayists of the Amazon were of paramount importance. I also base this study on researchers of literary and cultural residuality, historiographical studies and literary criticism, and on studies on Vanguard.
