Resumo

Silicon (Si ) have attracted interest in various areas of research, and this is due to the numerous benefits it brings this element to plants , including increased productivity and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Many of these benefits are attributed to the deposition of Si adjacent to the epidermis of the leaves, functioning as a barrier to protect plants , especially grasses that are considered Silicon accumulators . The aim of this study was to evaluate Brachiaria decumbens Stapf growth within five doses of calcium silicate and magnesium . The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications. The treatments consisted of Brachiaria species (B. decumbens ) and five levels of Ca and Mg silicate ( 0 , 300 , 600 , 1200 , 2400 kg ha - 1 ). It was later verified height , dry weight and elements concentrations in the ashes . Substrate samples were also collected to verify the product effects on the chemical characteristics of hydromorphic quartzarenic neosoil . The treatments with calcium silicate and magnesium caused an increase in soil pH, neutralizing the present aluminum . When comparing with the control plants under treatment of 2400 kg ha - 1 of silicate, it was found that there was a 38% reduction in plant height and dry matter production of aereal parts was five times smaller. The B.decumbens plants subjected to high doses of calcium and magnesium silicate feature slowdown in growth .
