A percepção ambiental dos professores do Ensino Médio das escolas estaduais da cidade de Itacoatiara/Am

Resumo

The growing concern about environmental issues has led to a greater appreciation of Environmental Education (EE) as an essential tool for promoting awareness and action in favor of the environment. Teachers play a crucial role in disseminating this knowledge and shaping environmental awareness among students. However, it is common for EE to be treated in isolation in schools, limited to the transmission of ecological concepts in specific disciplines. Given this scenario, the research seeks to answer the following guiding question: What is the perception of teachers regarding EE and how is it approached in the State Schools of Itacoatiara, considering its transversal and interdisciplinary nature? The research aims to analyze the perception of high school teachers from state schools in Itacoatiara/AM regarding Environmental Education (EE), identifying the difficulties they face in promoting environmental attitudes and values among students, and evaluating their educational practices related to the environment. To achieve the objectives, the Case Study. The research adopted an exploratory and qualitative approach to analyze the perception and environmental educational practices of high school teachers. Sixty (60) questionnaires were applied and semi-structured interviews were conducted in three state high schools in Itacoatiara/AM. The results revealed a high interest of teachers in environmental issues and a considerable awareness of environmental problems, showing concern for sustainability. However, there was a balanced distribution regarding the preparation to develop EE with students, highlighting the need for continuous training and preparation to effectively deal with these issues. In this context, considering the perspective of environmental rationality, the results obtained highlighted the importance of awareness and engagement of teachers, emphasizing the need for a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to address environmental challenges. The development of the Handbook Environmental Education in practice: Guide for engaged teachers offers a tangible tool to empower educators and promote environmental awareness among students in a practical and accessible way, providing specific guidelines and strategies to effectively integrate EE into pedagogical practices and suggesting paths to educate conscious citizens committed to preserving the environment. Therefore, the study contributes to a broader reflection on the role of EE in teacher training and in promoting a culture of sustainability in state schools in Itacoatiara. The results obtained can contribute to the implementation of public policies and educational practices that promote a more sustainable and responsible education, preparing students to face present and future environmental challenges.
