Efeito do uso de um dentifrício com agente dessensibilizante na qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal em pacientes submetidos ao clareamento em consultório

Resumo

This controlled, double-blind, parallel and randomized trial aimed to evaluate the influence of the use of desensitizing dentifrice on oral health-related quality of life (OHQoL) in patients subjected to office bleaching. 79 subjects were randomly assigned to the Test Group (GT, n= 41) and Control Group (GC, n=38), and the teeth were brushed three times daily with a desensitizing dentifrice (5% potassium nitrate + sodium fluoride 1450ppmF) or a common dentifrice (sodium fluoride 1450ppmF) prior to and throughout the bleaching treatment (35% hydrogen peroxide, two in-office sessions). The OHQoL, postoperative sensitivity and satisfaction with the color of the teeth were measured before treatment (T0), one week (T1) and thirty days (T2) after treatment. There was no difference in the variation of OHQoL between GT and GC in any of the evaluated times (independent T-test, p>0.05). Although the prevalence of dental sensitivity had been lower for GT than in CG at T2, this difference was not statistically significant (Chi-square test, p=0.224). There was a significant increase in dental sensitivity in both groups in the immediate postoperative period T1 (McNemar's test, p<0.001), with a significant reduction in the final time of the T2 proservation (GT p<0.001, GC p=0.04). Satisfaction with the color of the teeth increased significantly in both groups in T1, remaining high in T2 (Paired T-test, p<0.001). Thus, there was a significant improvement in the OHQoL for both groups in T2 (Paired T-test, p<0.05), although in T1 there was no change in OHQoL scores compared to T0 (paired T-test, p>0.05). It can be concluded that the use of desensitizing dentifrices prior to and during the bleaching treatment did not significantly reduce the prevalence of dental sensitivity due to treatment, and there was no difference in the post-treatment OHQoL among individuals who used desensitizing dentifrices and those using common dentifrice. There was a significant improvement in the OHQoL in both groups, at the final time of proservation-30 days post-treatment, however, in the initial period of proservation - one week after treatment, there was no improvement in the OHQoL. This is due to the different aspects that make up the OHQoL and in the specific case of the influence of the bleaching treatment, it is correlated to both the postoperative sensitivity and the satisfaction with the color of the teeth.
