Resumo
Timber volume is one of the most significant variable for planning and execution of forestry activities that includes logging and concludes with the monitoring of permanent plots. The volume is the variable with the greatest power of information in both the academic and scientific as in the productive sector. Thus, this study aimed to apply the regression equations used to estimate the volume of trees standing in the central region of Manaus AM.The base
of information for the development of this study was obtained at the Estação Experimental de Silvicultura Tropical of INPA, Manaus - AM and is composed of 121 trees, selected
randomly. The mesurement of volume of the trees was calculated using methodology Smalian. Was tested seven allometrics models, which tree of then are arithmetic, two are logarithimic and the other two are non-linears in order to select the one that better estimate the volume of trees. To the choose of the best model some sellection criteria was considered: higher adjusted coefficient of determination; lower absolute standard error of estimate; lower standard error of the estimated in percentage and better resídua distribution. All the tested models can be used to estimate the volume with bark of the Terra-Firme trees in the region of Manaus, cause they
showed good results in the adjusted coefficient of determination and the correlation and standard error of estimation, although the not linear equation was the one that best met the criteria for selection with only one independent variable (DHB) presenting results so consistent and accurate as the models that also uuse the commercial height variable and thus that equation was selected to estimate the volume.
