Resumo
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is widespread, affecting about 95% of the world's adult population, in which the majority of those infected are from developing countries. In Brazil, there are few current epidemiological data for EBV infection, especially about Northern region. Thus, the aim of the project was to identify the seroepidemiological profile of EBV infection in the city of Manaus and Presidente Figueiredo when analyzing its seroprevalence, serum levels of anti-EBV IgG and sociodemographic characteristics. For this, the project starts from a cross-sectional study originated from a previously population-based survey. A total of 579 biological samples were collected from residents of Manaus and Presidente Figueiredo, aged 0 to 81 years. For the determination of seroprevalence, serological diagnosis of serum samples was performed for the identification of anti-EBV IgG antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). All statistical analyzes were performed using the STATA and Prism 5.0 software. In all the statistical analyzes, those that obtained p value <0.05 were considered significant. The results show a 92.23% seroprevalence for EBV infection among the individuals studied. Participants in Manaus (96.32%, p = 0.041), women (94.13%, p = 0.029), adults between 20-29 years (95,73%; p = 0.024) and people with higher education (100%; p=0,001) presented greater seropositivity for EBV infection and also suggesting that these groups are more susceptible to EBV infection. Serum levels of anti-EBV IgG were significantly higher in women, participants with anemia, and individuals aged 60 years or older. The results presented here are of importance for health surveillance, since they present susceptibility data for EBV infection, assisting in strategies of containment and awareness.
