Resumo

The formation of environmentally conscious subjects and who are able to dialogue about sustainability practices and environmental equilibrium has been a concern of society and educational institutions. In this sense, the objective of this research was to analyze the environmental praxis in riverside school in the Amazon. The chosen institution was the municipal school Professor Francisca Góes dos Santos, located in the community of São Francisco, Costa Nova Terra, Careiro da Várzea, Amazonas. The aim was to analyze if it has been able, with its educational practices, to form citizens capable of thinking about the environment in a sustainable way, committing itself to the conservation of natural resources for future generations. The choice of the study area was due to the fact that the school is located in a floodplain area, whose community lands are flooded annually by the waters of the Amazon River, conferring the same, a peculiar character regarding the study of the relation of the Environment that surrounds it. Three specific objectives were outlined: To analyze the forms of environment in the São Francisco community; Identify the ways of school and community management and Evaluate environmental sustainability in school Professor Francisca Góes dos Santos. To achieve these objectives, several methodological tools such as open interviews, informal conversations, observation, forms and the Websphere Analysis Program were used. The results indicate that the municipal school Professor Francisca Góes dos Santos, although in its general context, has a clear idea of the responsibility that must be had with the environment and with everything that refers to the theme, it can not articulate enough mechanisms to To establish a concrete pedagogical policy of training of its teachers, its technical staff, its student body and much less of the community in which it is inserted. This is mainly due to the process of discontinuity in the actions developed by the institution, not concern with the example given to the public that is part of it, and more effectively, by the distant way in which the institution treats the community and the Which are not part of it directly. Therefore, the results indicate, in general, that the formation of environmentally conscious citizens suffers heavy wear and tear, influenced by the above mentioned reasons, with special emphasis on the relationship of the institution with the community in which it is inserted; And that the fact that the school is located in a community located in rural, riverine and varzean areas has not been used in a positive way by the institution to train its teachers, students and the entire community. Challenges are great, however, the structure, the training of employees and the pre-availability of the community are critical points that can be used in a positive way in the training of all those involved with the school institution.
