Resumo

In this study an analysis was made on urban expansion articulated with a set of structural changes of the economy and in Brazilian society. In the city of Manaus, most forms of occupation, classified by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) as slums settlements, are located in valley bottom regions and near the riverbanks that drain a local hydrographical network. They constitute agglomerates of people who, according to the IBGE, live in conditions that are unfit for housing, bring together excluded populations, lacking infrastructure for health services, security, transport, education and urban planning. For this study, we selected the Redemption District located in the Giant River basin. Its objective is to make a geospatial analysis of the clusters of the Redenção neighborhood. As specific objectives: Classify the amount of sectors of slums settlements and later characterize the slums settlements found. In the busiest area of the basin, several environments with different degrees of degradation were evidenced, including slums settlements. In Amazonas, slums settlements are known as communities, with Manaus (n = 50), Iranduba (n = 11), Parintins (n = 7) and Tefé (n = 7) in the city of Manaus. These numbers represent how many urban agglomerations, not to mention the number of census tracts. In Manaus the verification of the districts was done with the quantitative of census tracts; of the 63 districts, only 13 of them do not have clusters, the concrete form of this advance is the expansion of the communities (n = 50) throughout Manaus, in greater quantity in the Eastern and Northern Zones of Manaus. The representativity in the Redenção neighborhood was 48 census sectors, where 44 of these sectors represent the area where the technical term will mention "normal" sectors, and the remaining 4 sectors are urban spots, the sectors of slums settlements, these are many sometimes known as the "invisible" to the state, not forgetting to mention the fact that they do not appear in official statistics, the indifference to these subnormal agglomerations is increasingly noted. The reflection of the neglect and lack of public policies for greater investments in the urban structure, it is noticeable that the city is seen as a commodity, since only those with better financial conditions have the best places to build their houses.
