Gravidez como fator de risco para óbito por Covid-19 no estado do Amazonas

Resumo

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a new strain of human coronavirus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It affected more than 765 million people and led to the death of more than 6.9 million people worldwide. Clinical patterns range from asymptomatic cases to critically ill patients with or without pneumonia. Elderly, immunosuppressed individuals and those with pre-existing medical conditions are particularly susceptible to the complications of infection. On the one hand, it is unclear how SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy is related to maternal outcomes. This study aims to analyze the role of pregnancy as a risk factor for death from COVID-19 in the state of Amazonas, from 2020 to 2022. A prospective cohort study was carried out using secondary data from the epidemiological surveillance of SIVEP-Flu in the state of Amazon. The logistic regression model was used to analyze the association of death from COVID-19 and the demographic and clinical characteristics of women hospitalized for the disease. 10,049 cases of women hospitalized for COVID-19 were analyzed, with 2,003 (20%) dying from the disease. Patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, undergoing cancer treatment, puerperal women and those hospitalized in the capital had a higher risk of progressing to death, while pregnancy and the vaccine was a protective factor. The association between the occurrence of death from COVID-19 and age showed significance, the greater the age, 50 to 59 years. The cardiovascular system may be the main target of SARS-CoV-2, and cardiovascular diseases were the most common comorbidities in all stages of COVID-19 infection. Vaccination for COVID-19 had a protective effect on death. These results provide knowledge about patients at greater risk of worsening and death; consequently we can improve care, reduce deaths and support the elaboration of public health policies.
