Entre a roça e a feira: a circulação da produção agrícola no Amazonas

Abstract

In this study, we aimed to analyze the circulation of agricultural production in the Amazon from areas defined as Feirão of SEPROR, places created for the distribution of production in Manaus. The creation of these fairs is closely related to policies for agriculture in order to put social groups that until then were absent with the possibility of being included in the market. We try to understand what factors influence the marketing of production in the Amazon and therefore, we point out the logistical and geographical difficulties that have always been considered obstacles for distribution of production. At the same time, we analyze how the state has affected the relationship between production, distribution and consumption, acting on the marketing possibilities, and we've found that with this incentive the Government began to increase support to farmers driven by policies pursued by the Federal Government and mainly by the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture - PRONAF. We start from the assumption that the farmer is the same peasant used as an analytical category and that in the public policies is called family farmer. Therefore, we have chosen here to use the term farmer because this is the way most accepted by those involved in the research accomplished. While the second term is only accepted by some of them. Similarly, we analyze the fair as the privileged space of the circulation of agricultural production and issuing the various forms of accommodation and resistance in the farmers living. These forms of resistance and accommodation pass through the daily life, sometimes as complaints and indiscipline or even as an adaptation and the generation of dependency around the public policies. For this reason, we conclude that the circulation of agricultural production at the Feirão of SEPROR can be structured as resistance or accommodation of social individuals for the maintenance of agricultural production in the state of Amazonas as it creates opportunities that can be only circumstantial, considering that we are talking about government policies and not lasting policies that characterize actually a state policy. As the focus of the investigation was to object only circulation of production, many other possibilities can be thought of for this same context, such as most accurate analysis of documents used to design the fair as a sociocultural border or even an analysis of these identities that are constantly reworked, among other ways to reflect on agricultural production in the state.
