Imprensa, imigração, trabalho e sociabilidades femininas na Belle Époque Manauara, 1880-1920

Abstract

The work intends to give visibility to immigrant women in Manaus, in the period of 1880-1920, when it happened the peak of rubber exploitation in the region.Characterized by economic development and changes in urban and cultural aspects, the so-called "rubber boom" caused the arrival of immigrants from diverse backgrounds both from Brazil and abroad. The analysis aims to identify, through the journals of the period, how the immigrants were included in the city's daily life, their relations with the elites, for whom and by whom the urban space has been thought, and also in the poor’s context, which has been excluded from the government actions.
