Resumo

In Parintins, during the decade of 1980, the city began the Parintins Music Festival (Festival da Canção de Parintins/FECAP). This event offered the city a cultural setting, one that would make it a center for cultural creativity. By examining the historical context, this dissertation aims at analyzing this moment of cultural effervescence, in a city in the interior of the Amazon. To do so, the instrument and work proposal we chose was that of interviewing the composers and organizers of this event, for those subjects were the main protagonists during the period of the Music Festivals in Parintins. Thanks to their stories, memories and reinvented identities, we note the involvement of the regional composers, collaborating to the creation of a musical identity, in which the traditional popular songs are present, while innovating tunes are gradually included. We will follow the lead that takes us from the folklore in Parintins, represented by the traditional melodies, to the cultural fusion, with the addition of new cultural elements and themes, so as to understand the multicultural melting pot this event represented to the group of composers created during the social, cultural and political changes in the context of the country, reflected in Parintins.
