Resumo
This work aims to study two holy feasts as methods to pay promises in the Parintins city, Amazonas State, in rural communities Aninga and Parananema. At the Aninga, the celebration of St. John is held in June and at the Parananema, the feast of St. Michael in September. Both have a significant participation of devotees and people who for reasons other than participating in these events. Was intended to investigate why these promises, what social actions can be identified in these events, how they are organized, who are the people who belong to this organization and how are chosen, why the Church authorities did not participate in these festivals, what are the similarities and differences between the two parties, which are the characteristics of exchange relations between the saints and devotees, the contributions that these parties bring to the community and responsible families for these events and how these events influence the way of thinking, feeling and acting of people involved or who participate in these celebrations. In this sense, the established analysis has support in theories from Max Weber, Pierre Bourdieu, Marcel Mauss, Heraldo Maues, Isidore Alves, Eduardo Galvao and Charles Wagley, in order to contribute to the understanding of the dynamics of these holy feasts in Parintins and other Amazonian municipalities.
