Resumo
This research is in the field of Applied Linguistics (AL) and its general objective was to investigate the representations of English language teachers about the textbook they adopt and the teaching materials used in public school. The specific objectives involved analyzing the representations arising from the teacher's relationship with the textbook, as well as to describe and analyze the representations regarding the process of creating and adapting didactic materials and resources of support and identify and describe teachers' representations of new high school textbooks - PNLD 2021 (BRASIL, 2021). The theoretical aspects about representations were based on the authors Celani and Magalhães (2002), Jodelet (2009; 2001), Moscovici (2012; 2009); about textbooks on Anjos (2015), Dagios et al. (2013), Silva (2012; 2016), Tílio (2012); and about supporting materials and resources for the study language teaching on Leffa (2016; 2007), Tomlinson (2004), Vilaça (2012). For methodological issues, this research was based on the qualitative approach Denzin and Lincoln (2006), Lüdke and André (1986) and the case study in Stake (1998), Lüdke and André (1986). The research was conducted in schools of the State Department of Education and Quality of Education-SEDUC-AM and it was carried out during the Covid 19 pandemic period. The participants were licensed teachers in Languages who work in high school. The instruments that were used for data generation consist of questionnaires and a semi-structured interview based on Monteiro (2009; 2014). The results pointed out the teachers' representations about the textbook as an instrument that brings limitations, sometimes without context, but that is capable of being a cultural window, fully adaptable, however, there are positive expectations of most participants about the new PNLD 2021 (BRASIL, 2021) books. Representations about adapting to the textbook and creating materials showed that these actions start from the critical-reflective look of the teacher, in addition to having the purpose of meeting the needs of the class. Finally, all representations of didactic materials to support classes pointed to the use of digital resources. It is suggested that research be developed on the new interdisciplinary books of the National Plan for Books and Didactic Material-PNLD 2021, which works with the implementation in the New High School and deals with the insertion of digital resources in the school.
