Resumo

In civil construction the most used material and, consequently, the one with the greatest environmental impact is concrete. Making concrete with the partial replacement of sand by ground glass is very advantageous from the viewpoint of improving strength and reducing the environmental impact generated by the extraction of raw materials. In the literature presented, it can be seen that this concern is present in many countries and different results are found, leaving open other study variances. This work considered for comparison one conventional concrete mix and four other mixtures with glass sand substitutions in the proportions of 20, 30, 40 and 50%. The glass used in the construction industry was grinded and sieved until it reached the fine particle size range. The elemental characteristics of the concrete in its fresh and hardened state were observed, where a general improvement can be noticed. The resistances that initially reach below the reference levels, in older age surpass actually showing improvement of the concrete mix.
