Trabalho e condições de envelhecimento em Manaus: estudo com os idosos usuários das Unidades Básicas de Saúde da Zona Sul e com os participantes do Parque Municipal do Idoso

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the conditions of aging in Manaus, emphasizing the trajectory of work covered by the elderly, since this is crucial to the material conditions, and subjective health during this phase of life. To understand this issue, we sought to identify the family situation, educational levels, access to retirement income, health conditions, as well as the perception of the elderly about old age, about the work that exercised over the productive life of the they do to occupy the time that was previously reserved for work, and finally, we point out their main demands and ways to experience old age. To achieve the proposed objectives, we used secondary data from a previous survey conducted in the year 2008/2009 basic health units in the area south of Manaus, and primary data collected in 2012 in the Old City Park, resulting in the insertion Masters in Social Work. This research had a qualitative approach / quantitative and was performed by applying a structured interview with 24 randomly selected subjects (12 of basic health units and 12 of the Municipal Park for the Elderly). The comparison between these surveys on time and allows different locus apprehend the conditions of aging in different contexts. We found from the analysis of the results that differ materially interfere with the ways of living and perceiving old age. Most respondents have chronic diseases, however, who feel weaker are the basic units of elderly users, the elderly because of the park show that these do not prevent them from living independently. You can see that before the break with the work and uncertainty about what role play, older units are basic household chores and television major means of occupying time, since the park for the elderly, participation in groups living for seniors has great meaning and appears as a solution to reinvention of free time. In other words, the elderly Municipal Park who had access to a productive life more satisfying, therefore, a more active aging, healthy and a better understanding about this phase. Given this reality, it is up to society and the government, through social policies, take actions that promote an age less independent and more debilitated physically and financially for everyone
