Abstract

The interest of this research is to investigate the contribution of Pará intellectual Leandro Tocantins in the dissemination of Brazilian culture in Europe, and his denunciation of the need to insert the Amazonian cultural aspects in the debates about national development during the Brazilian military political dictatorship and in the consolidation. of a social thought about the region. Leandro Tocantins made inroads into the stricter environment of the state and the pinnacle of this intellectual's relationship with foreign policy and national development policies that would have been built during the regime was when he assumed the post of cultural attaché of the Brazilian embassy in Lisbon. from 1970 to 1973 and extended after his return to Brazil when he resumed his position as adviser to development projects for the Amazon, a position he has held since he was adviser to Arthur Cezar Ferreira Reis at SPVEA. Thus, the present work aims to apprehend, through the diaries, letters and written correspondences of Leandro Tocantins the way the intellectual and cultural attaché saw the reality of which he was part, seeking, therefore, what are the relations between these documents and the social and political contexts. That made their constitution possible.
