Para além das chaminés: Memória, trabalho e cidade – a navegação a vapor no Amazonas (1850-1900)

Abstract

Through varied body documentary, which corresponds to the years 1850-1900, seeks to hold the meeting of experienced human experiences in the historical process of steam navigation implement the Amazon. Planning which involved a number of social sectors committed to their training and performance, we used different means of construction of ways of seeing and tell steamships. Arguing that this planning was contributing to the discipline, norms and rationality the nautical work, the research seeks to also discuss the time found themselves under stress lifestyles, work cultures and native traditions. Analyzing the produced memory of the project, the experiences related workers and the dimensions of transformation, also experienced in urbanizing and modernizing mainstay for the Amazon, the objective is therefore the questioning of steam, beyond what appears instantly defending the notion of history in the making.
