Resumo
The sustainability of agriculture involves processes with social, economic, cultural, environmental, among others, that the interfaces have a complexity that relates man and nature. In this context, discussions on family farms become relevant to what extent the increase in production capacity in agriculture sought to meet both the domestic market as international, resulting in growth of production volume, but also questioning the sustainability of natural resources given the fact the indiscriminate use in capitalist production logic. Family farming aims, through family labor, the livelihoods of different social segments of the Brazilian rural areas with small and medium scale of production. Thus, historically Amazon agriculture is developed differently based on knowledge, wisdom and inherited traditional practices of indigenous culture and the various social sectors that immigrants in the different economic cycles in the region fostered a process of Amazon socio-cultural training with different social groups, among which are the traditional family farmer riverside. The study aimed at an analysis of sustainability in the development of traditional family farms in the coastal communities of Saint Lazarus and Saint Lucia in the municipality of Caapiranga / AM in the period from January to December 2014. The methodology used was based on a quantitative and qualitative approach in which techniques and instruments were used such as: form, interview, group approach, field notes and observation. The results mainly show that the development of traditional family farming communities of San Afonso and Santa Maria, farming practices are used, traditional knowledge and forms of management developed the generations, based mainly on knowledge and indigenous culture, but according to reality, the dynamics and the need were adapted. The survey data show that the development of traditional family farming is for subsistence and are permeated with values and sustainability features they allow a management in the use of natural resources linked to the ability of traditional family farmers to reproduce physically and culturally, the same time keeping and ensures resources for future generations. From the search result, it was found that family farming communities are designed in traditional, differentiated from commercial farmers, conventional and therefore the need for a regional rural policy geared to the needs of the producer in the region, with the creation of alternatives and public actions for a sustainable regional development with recovery and strengthening of traditional family farms
