Resumo
From the 30s to the 60s of the 20th century, Brazil experienced changes and proceedings in
the economic, political, cultural and literary spheres that reoriented the dynamics of
Brazilian society with the end of the First Republic. The Amazon was not immune to this;
Belém and Manaus, after the rubber recession, watched, in these four decades, the young
writers mobilize themselves, through literary groups, to establish connection with writers
from other regions of the country, at the same time as innovations of the arts in Amazonian
lands. In this context of changes, mobilizations and adjustments, in which women were seen
under the most diverse discourses, Eneida de Moraes published, in 1962, a set of memoir
narratives in Banho de cheiro and Astrid Cabral released, in 1963, her first literary work,
Alameda, a set of unusual tales about inhuman beings, with an emphasis on vegetables. For
a number of reasons, these two writers are among the few women who stand out in literature
from Amazonian lands, specifically in the writing of narratives, and who have received
recognition from the public and the critics. Although studies on women writers have already
advanced, there is still much to know about this important and exceptional period for
women writers in the Amazon, specifically in Amazonas and Pará. In view of this, we seek
to understand how the articulations and reflections of political, cultural and social events
that took place in four decades influenced the literary engineering of Astrid Cabral and
Eneida de Moraes, mainly through Alameda and Banho de cheiro, noting the ties of
interdependence that were established and how they contributed to the recognition of these
two writers in Amazonian literature is Brazil. To this end, we resort to reading and analyzing
a variety of documentary collections and bibliographies of specialty in the fields of cultural
history, literary history and criticism, philosophy and cultural studies and ecocritics, in
addition to the literary works published by these two writers.
