Resumo

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, the field of Nursing has shown a noticeable increase in scientific production in Brazil, having a clear connection with the increase and improvement of stricto sensu graduate courses, which prioritize and stimulate the production of scientific research. However, although there has been a considerable increase in the supply and access to graduate courses in Nursing in Brazil, this increase is accompanied by an uneven distribution in the Brazilian territory. The Brazilian North region suffers from socioeconomic and cultural inequities and deficiencies in the distribution and qualification of human resources and in the production of Science, Technology & Information (ST&I) in the field of Nursing. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the adherence of the scientific production of nurses with doctors in the northern region to the body of nursing knowledge, as well as to the specificities of care for the population of the region. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Study documentary, descriptive and quantitative in nature. The profile of nurses with doctoral degrees in the North of Brazil were evaluated; and characterized the theses defended by the nurse doctors of the Northern Region. Data were collected on the Lattes/CNPq Platform and on the Sucupira/CAPES Platform. Data were collected between August and December 2020 and analyzed using descriptive statistics. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The North region is the state of Brazil with the lowest number of Doctors in Nursing when compared to the number of active nurses. Nurses working in the North region obtained a doctoral degree mainly by Higher Education Institutions located in the Southeast Region of Brazil, thus coinciding with the offer of courses in the inter-institutional modality - DINTER. The 177 theses produced by doctors from the North region of Brazil were distributed into thirteen thematic areas in which the areas that had the highest number of linked theses were: adult and elderly health, collective health and women's health, thus resembling those of theses/dissertations produced in other Brazilian regions, as well as presenting a small number of studies directed to traditional populations of the Amazon. This scenario can be attributed to the fact that the doctoral degree of nurses is carried out in programs located in other Brazilian regions (usually in the Southeast region) since the Doctoral course in Nursing is not offered in the North region. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Knowing the profile of doctoral nurses in the North region of Brazil and the scientific production produced by them contributes to the structuring of the connection between scientific knowledge and its introduction into the social scene in an active way. The access of nurses in the North region of Brazil to the doctoral course in nursing within the scope of professional practice is essential for the expansion of studies directed to specific themes in the region and to the realities of the usual populations of the Amazon.
