Gestão territorial na várzea: atividades socioprodutivas e os processos de trabalho na Costa da Conceição (Itacoatiara, Amazonas, Brasil)

Abstract

The region of Costa da Conceição, located in the municipality of Itacoatiara, in the state of Amazonas, is characterized geographically by a floodplain known as "várzea," subject to annual changes due to the hydrological regime of the Amazon River. This study aims to analyze the territorial management and socio-productive activities in Costa da Conceição, in the municipality of Itacoatiara, Amazonas. Regarding the methodological procedures, secondary data were derived from bibliographic sources such as books, articles, dissertations, and theses. For primary data collection, questionnaires were used, addressing thematic axes related to socio-economic activities during the flood and ebb periods, productive activities, and social organization for the construction of an agricultural calendar. Other aspects included activity schedules, production and commercialization flowcharts, environmental conservation matrices, Venn diagrams, SWOT matrices, problem trees, and problem prioritization matrices. These were duly analyzed and systematized using electronic spreadsheets. The adaptation to different phases of the hydrological cycle, cultivation strategies, commercialization methods, and community strengthening are key elements for the survival and livelihood of families, enabling these communities to take advantage of opportunities provided by the floodplain environment and ensuring a source of income throughout the year. The limited presence of research institutions restricts access to updated studies and knowledge about agricultural practices, technologies, and sectoral innovations, making it challenging to adopt more efficient cultivation methods. This emphasizes the need for solutions to the challenges faced by farmers in the region. The absence of these institutions underscores the importance of stimulating and strengthening institutions, associations, assistance, and the presence of public authorities in the region. Such efforts would contribute to local agricultural development, the refinement of cultivation practices, and increased resilience of farmers in the face of challenges encountered in the agricultural sector.
