Resumo

The present dissertation approaches the organization process, mobilization and teacher's struggle in Manaus linked to State Secretary of Education throughout the 1980s. The chronological cutout established it is constituted in singular moment particularly because identified with the end of civil-military dictatorship that settled in Brazil in 1964 and, consequently, with the political opening process' beginning and the Brazil' re-democratization one of its greatest characteristics being the rise of social movements, fruit of different categories worker's organization and struggle. One point of the research was to demonstrate how the teachers of the state school of Manaus undertook their organization process, mobilization and struggle, and how much such struggles were intimately articulated with the political scene of the time. Using the varied range of records (union documents, journalistic matters, interviews) the dissertation seeks to accommodate and analyze this organization process that, forged in the fight for rights and for better conditions of life and work was undertaken by the amazonian teachers, making them one of the most important political agents of the Amazon context of the decade. Structured in three chapters, the dissertation accompanies the specific moments of the category's organization and fight emphasizing the claim days of 1983 and 1985, in the confrontation with repressive forces that led, in 1985, to the episode of "Batalha do Igarapé de Manaus" ("Battle of the Manaus Stream"), and in the performance of its leadership in the quest to debate and participate in the mobilization and pressures established by the workers on a national scale due to influence the process of Brazil' re-democratization. Finally, the dissertation points to the dilemma and tensions that reach the category in the late 1980s and which had as a background the beginning of the implementation of the neoliberal precepts, such as wage tightening, economy deregulation and the precaution of the job, flowing the movements of struggle and resistance of the workers.
