O artesanato de Novo Airão: sustentabilidade e identidade cultural na economia criativa

Abstract

Novo Airão town, located in the State of Amazonas, stands out for its rich biodiversity, known worldwide by the Anavilhanas National Park and the Jaú National Park. In this study, its sociodiversity is highlighted, especially to the work carried out by the Association of Craftsmen of Novo Airão (AANA), Nov'Arte and Fundação Almerinda Malaquias (FAM), centers of crafts that are based on the elaboration of handicraft products, Arumã and wood braids, respectively. The work of the artisans was analyzed from the perspectives of the craftsmen themselves, the understanding of the production processes through the objective manifestation of culture, of social and of environmental. Thus, this study proposes to analyze the contemporary dynamics of the crafts of Novo Airão and the way in which this production can act as mediator of the local social and economic relations articulated with the creative economy, and its symbolic and economic appropriation of nature. The work of the craftsmen and their dynamics were traced from the crossing of frontiers between anthropology, environmental rationality and the creative economy. Regarding the methodology, it is characterized as ethnographic with a qualitative approach, having as technical procedures the bibliographical research and the field study with the artisans and representatives of the Associations. In order to develop the relevant reflections on culture, crafts and economics, it was necessary to rethink the pattern of growth and economy, leading to the narrowing of development and culture. This study focused on craftsmen, their daily lives, their limitations, their longings, their relationships, their production and their culture.
