Resumo
In the society in which we operate, it is a fact, when we are children we play with dolls, toy cars, marbles, spinning tops, hopscotch, etc. However, over the years, as we become teenagers or adults, responsibilities start to replace toys, distancing us from a “playful routine” and inserting us in the serious and routine world work is. For this reason, we seek to spend part of our free time enjoying the leisure, in an attempt to break the routine and renew tensions through activities ranging from contemplation of nature to the practice of extreme activities. It is no different in Manaus, many are the activities sought out to experience leisure depending on the culture of each individual, but what draws attention is the presence of a millenary toy called kite. Then arises the problem of our investigation: what does the kite represent for the adult individual? Given this, we performed a Case Study of qualitative approach, with the overall objective of investigating the kite while a symbolic and cultural manifestation enjoyed at leisure for adults in Manaus-AM, underscoring the importance of its preservation in local culture. The specific objectives were: identify the profile of kite runners; identify the reasons why they fly kites and point the mechanisms that strengthen this practice through generations. As for the technical procedures, to achieve our objectives, we used the structured interview with the help of a form containing open questions as an instrument of collecting data. We went where the phenomenon manifests itself, that is, where it is possible to see adults flying kites, and we chose to perform the research in the South zone of Manaus, more precisely in the PROSAMIM of Borba, Cachoeirinha. We interviewed 30 individuals older than 18 years (35.1 ± 10.2 years old) approached at random at the site while they were running or selling kites. The results identify the profile of kite runners as an adult who used to fly kites as child/teenager and today uses the object in moments of leisure or for work, and seek the place mainly to socialize with other people. We consider that the kite is strengthened in culture because it provides emotions to those who practice it in their leisure time and that safety measures must be put into practice by the public authority delimiting the areas of pipódromo in order to minimize the damages caused by it.
