O impacto da utilização de diferentes estratégias de intervenção verbal de treinadores sobre o comportamento tático de jovens jogadores de futebol

Abstract

The soccer coach faces many challenges in the process of training young players. Thus, studies have sought to understand the coach’s behavior in training and competition contexts. However, few studies still highlight the effects generated by interventions from coaches during a competition on the tactical behavior of young soccer players. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to investigate the impact of using different verbal strategies by soccer coaches on the tactical behavior of young players in a competition context. The dissertation was elaborated using an alternative model and divided into two experimental studies to achieve the proposed objective. The first study was conducted to analyze the verbal behaviors used by coaches during a state competition in the Sub-11 age-category. The results showed that silence was the most commonly observed behavior exhibited by coaches during various moments when the ball was in play. On the other hand, instruction was the most frequently observed behavior during moments outside of the game, such as technical time-out and game break. In addition, there were times when coaches diversified the targets of their verbal behaviors. The second study was conducted to investigate the influence of the coach's behavior on the tactical behavior of soccer players during competitive games. In this study, it was possible to understand that the verbal interventions of the coaches during technical time and game break, impact on the team's tactical behavior. However, it is important to understand that mandatory tactical behaviors can also emerge depending on how coaches provide their instructions. Therefore, the coach can directly influence the tactical behavior of young footballers in competitive games and it becomes necessary for him or she to understand how to effectively communicate information to his or her players in order to improve their tactical behavior and performance.
